Tour in detail - 4 Day Tour

Distance
30Km

Day One

We meet everyone for coffee and introductions at a cafe on Queenstowns Steamer Wharf. The right bikes are then fitted to the right people ensuring a comfortable few days of riding will follow. We then board the historic steamer the 'TSS Earnslaw' for a thirty minute trip across Lake Wakatipu to Walter Peak High Country Station. Morning tea at the homestead is provided before the cycling begins.

Once on our bikes we start riding along the edge of Lake Wakatipu. Although we are only a short distance away from Queenstown by steamer, it's actually over three and a half hours drive by road. This means it is unlikely we will see another vehicle today. Tractors and farm bikes don't count! The surroundings are just spectacular- you will enjoy riding through farmland with high peaks, tussocks and lake views stretching out in the distance.

After approximately 14kms of cycling we stop for a delicious lunch by the lake. We then take a water taxi to Greenstone Valley, a short but exhilirating forty five minute ride. Then it's back to pedal power, cycling along the shores of Lake Wakatipu. We will cycle over crystal clear streams and through beech forest before finishing the day at the small community of Kinloch.

This evening you can look forward to a hearty country meal and relaxing by the fire, soaking in the open air hot tub or maybe even walk twenty paces to the lake edge for a swim if you're brave.

Day Two

Today we leave the forest behind as we head out onto the merino sheep filled paddocks of the Dart Valley and across its wide braided river plains. The glaciers of the Mt Aspiring National Park form our back drop and every view is better than the last as we cross the long one lane bridge of the Dart River.

We finish our ride at the historic Paradise Farm, our accommodation for the night. This area has been featured in many television commercials and films including 'The Lord of the Rings', 'X-men Wolverine', 'Vertical Limits', 'Tracker' and recently a Bollywood title.

Paradise Farm has extensive grounds full of hidden delights and is well worth an explore. Numerous walking and cycling tracks run through the property. Of course if you feel that you have done enough exercise for the day then you can always relax in front of the fire with one of the many books on hand.

As we are so far south, it is light until about 1030pm in summer leaving you free to explore the walks around the smaller Lake Diamond and perhaps have a swim in its still waters.
